Love trekking? Just get in, this is for you! Mandalpatti is one of the finest trekking destinations I have ever explored in south India. There are kilometres to conquer and you must come with muscles because it is not that easy.
The time is around 5.30 in the morning and everyone is like "I'm ready, let's go", not a usual scene at the first light of a day. Our local guide Poovaih came with a Mahindra jeep, the perfect trekking partner. And we started our journey after a strong tea from the nearby shop.
It was only a half an hour drive to the destination from our stay, near Madikeri. After a few kilometres there started the off-road, we were in a zig-zag motion inside the jeep. Hats off to Mr.Poovaih it was not an easy task at all to drive through those rolling stones.
The landscapes and the views on our way to the top were simply mind-blowing. We took some breaks to take pictures and to enjoy the sunrise.
We reached the point from where no more wheels roll for us for going forth. So it's the time for the machine to take some rest and we started climbing the hills from there.
When we started walking, it was like a walking, walking and walking. You must have a strong pair of legs if you really want to trek Mandalpatti down. If you are up for a complete trekking there is actually kilometres to conquer.
Continuous ups and downs, when I say ups there were pure verticals slants you even have to use your hands for climbing those. We were in full throttle in the beginning and then starts to slow down when we realized the toughness of the task.
From one peak to another, I'm the one who is always walking behind everyone. The real slow guy. We enjoyed the time at it's best and it was worth walking that far. People in the hills were looked like tiny spots, again this is the beauty of nature where you will realize how small you and your problems really are.
The only tall tree we had seen till then was right at the top of a hill, so the rest of the land looks like a deserted area from there. And that was the only spot where we found some shadow and took a break to re-boost ourselves.
When I said a break this was the kind of break we had. Everyone simply enjoyed the trekking at it's best and no one even showed a symbol of tiredness.
Once when we reached the top, everyone was like WOW!, the views were that pleasing. From the top what we can see is a horizon which separates the beautiful hill ranges from the sky.
We can sit there for hours without taking eyes from that beautiful frame of nature. We sat there for some more time without even talking a word and simply enjoyed the beauty of our planet.
It's all worth walking these long and that's usually happening with those amazing destinations.
Finally, we fell back to the valley with a grand bundle of new experiences and by adding an amazing page to our life's notebook. Everyone was equally tired and hungry, so the return was pretty faster. That's how our unplanned trekking happened, as always the best things will comes out of the plan.
Poovaih had one more surprise for us, which was the best thing you can ever get after such a long trek. He lead us to a nearby river for a natural bath and I can't explain you in words how cool was that then. I can simply say that was one of the best days of my life, a great outdoor!
our route:
Madikeri is the nearest town, which was our starting point too. From Madikeri, it is almost an hour drive to Mandalpatti. Go in the early morning, it will be the best experience.
